چکیده

Habitat fragmentation due to human activities creates threats wild Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) and increases human-elephant conflicts (HEC). This study analyzed connectivity maps among the core habitats of in eastern part Thailand. Resistance surfaces, associated with geographic land use features, were used estimate dispersal elephants. An increase roads, reservoirs, agricultural areas 2020 was noted. In addition, artificial water sources roads has increased HEC. To reduce HEC, suitable landscape corridors for can guide development effective habitat patches. The scattered locations reserved forests induce enter areas. 2020, during dry season, 3552 patches, 253 population patches (4875 km2), 8 breeding (68.1 other (193.9 km2). However, reduced 1961 (3850.9 km2) wet season. 16 recommended connecting finest These be as a guideline construct elephants’ movement finding help local managers villagers incorporate design restoration survival develop purposes.

Summation by Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus)

Recent empirical evidence for complex cognition in elephants suggests that greater attention to comparative studies between non-human primates and other animals is warranted. We have previously shown that elephants possess the ability to judge the difference between two discrete quantities, and unlike other animals, their choice does not appear to be affected by distance or overall quantity. In...

Luteogenesis during the estrous cycle in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).

The occurrence of multiple corpora lutea (CLs) in the ovaries of the cycling and pregnant elephant, a monovulatory mammal, has driven scientific discussions during the past five decades. However, fundamental knowledge on luteogenesis is lacking. In this long-term study, CL formation and regression throughout the estrous cycle were monitored using transrectal 2D- and 3D ultrasonography in 33 cap...

Use of famciclovir for the treatment of endotheliotrophic herpesvirus infections in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).

Two juvenile Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) presented with an acute onset of facial edema and lethargy. Examination of the oral cavity of each animal revealed cyanosis of the tip and distal margins of the tongue suggestive of endothelial inclusion body disease (EIBD) of elephants. Whole-blood samples were obtained, and polymerase chain reaction tests confirmed the presence of elephant herpes...

Studies on feed digestibilities in captive Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).

In order to test the suitability of the horse as a nutritional model for elephants, digestibility studies were performed with six captive Asian elephants on six different dietary regimes, using the double marker method with acid detergent lignin as an internal and chromium oxide as an external digestibility marker. Elephants resembled horses in the way dietary supplements and dietary crude fibr...

Tuberculosis in captive Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) in Peninsular Malaysia.

A cross-sectional study was conducted from 10 January to 9 April 2012, to determine the seroprevalence of tuberculosis (TB) of all captive Asian elephants and their handlers in six locations in Peninsular Malaysia. In addition, trunk-wash samples were examined for tubercle bacillus by culture and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). For 63 elephants and 149 elephant handlers, TB seroprevalence was ...
